Still Exercising and The Search for Maternity Clothes

FYI I am still exercising at least 3 times a week, usually for 60 minutes - a power walk, Fit Mama Video or stair climber/Elliptical at the gym. I also do 5 at home workouts that are about 30 minutes involving weights, yoga and pilates. I hope to start a Pregnancy Yoga class soon too. (A ton of people told me when I got pregnant "you won't keep exercising...you will be too tired"). Well, I am EXTREMELY tired, but I think I would be even MORE tired and stressed out if I didn't work out.

As far as Maternity Clothes, does anyone else think it is a complete waste of money to buy a lot of clothes for a couple of months? At around month 4 I bought some stretchy pants and a few tops. Just the other week I finally bought a pair of Maternity Jeans (which are still pretty big, but I wanted to have room to grow...secretly I hope they continue to be huge), which brought my grand total of maternity pants to 2! Then yesterday I got a pair of capri pants and some khaki pants. So I think, other than a black pair I am pretty set for pants. (Up until now I was wearing elastic pants and regular clothes with a rubber band looped around the button and through the button hole). However Heather tells me I am going to get HOT around May and will need some shorts...I really don't want to buy anything more. I also got a few short sleeved shirts because the clothes I bought in January were all long sleeves, which, luckily, we will be out of soon! YIPPEE!!!

This whole maternity clothes thing, instead of being fun and exciting, has really bummed me out! You have no idea (unless you've been pregnant) how it is to feel like you have nothing flattering to wear. So it is a big relief to have some things that are actually cute (but still not enough)!

  1. I went crazy on the preggo clthes. I shopped like a rocket for a month and a half, buying up late season sweaters and blouses for work and cool tops for summer (Old Navy's clearance bin online was a godsend). I bought pants as staples for work and play (you'll prolly want one more pair of jeans, and get a size that fits!) and then put togetehr a wide range of inexpensive tops per the experts' advise. Tops can be cheap, but the pants should be good quality since they will be the work-horse of your wardrobe.

Also, idulge in the cuteness of your shape. This is the only time a big belly is considered attractive! Not to mention having some flowy clothes for the post baby time will keep your spirits from dragging too badly when you're losing that extra weight.

    ENJOY BEING CUTE! :)

  2. Leslie I wore tons of capris just buy them a size larger. Now when you are in months 8 and 9 near the end you will need some shorts and go to a resale shop as they have them. If you wear 2 sizes bigger than normal they will be huge in the butt and you will look saggy. I also did a lot of loose flowing tops like baby doll style. The best part is if you do buy new things you just keep them and hope to get pregnant the same time of year as before or sell them to the resale shop! Wait til your feet get a half size bigger forever and you have to buy all new shoes! LOL Welcome to motherhood. Anne
