The Pregnant Woman's Mind (Lost)

Every pregnant woman I know has attested to these strange things that happen to the mind. In my case, there are a ton of mind changes, but these are the most common:

Example #1: Movement Worries

Since the baby has started moving I find that I expect the movement, strong and often. If it isn't often...when the baby is still for a while, even 2 hours, I start to panic..."the baby hasn't moved for a while...I must eat something" (Often the change in blood sugar causes immediate movement, even on the 5th drink or bite - how amazing is that placenta???). So the routine is pretty much the same...find some juice or some fruit (mostly, sometimes ice cream or a popsicle - shame on me!), sit still and see if the baby moves. He/She always does...never a need to worry.

And LUCKILY, the baby seems to be sleeping through the night. When I go to sleep the baby seems to go to sleep and stay still. When I get up in the morning (then lie back down for a while) the baby starts to move and be active. They say this could be an indication of the regular activity level (I sure hope so).

Example #2: Bizarre Dreams
So many...almost always involving one of the following:
  1. Having the baby without either Tim, Doula Rae or my midwife
  2. Having absolutely no recollection of the delivery (might that be a good thing?)
  3. Having the baby early or some other weird thing (like having the baby switched in one dream).
  4. Some other bizarre dream having nothing to do with the baby...too many to even list!! And too Bizarre!
Example #3: "dumb syndrome"
This one is quite my favorite! When I first got pregnant Tim asked me "are you going to get dumb like all the pregnant girls at work". I thought he was making it up...until the day I asked him what show he was watching 4 times in the space of 5 minutes. I really did not know! Other signs of dumb syndrome are forgetting things places, lack of attention span/concentration, having trouble recalling a conversation I just had yesterday, etc. Damn hormones! At least now I have an excuse!

  1. I defo experience the dumbness of pregnancy, but like you say, it's a legitimate excuse! I don't tend to worry about Squiggles not moving unless I had a bad dream or something. But kiddo also moves a bit upon first eating or drinking. That is really incredible. The highest compliment I can give a cook is that the kid started kicking as soon as I bit into their cuisine. ;)

Let's not get started on the dreams thing! We could be here all day. Mine range from dreams of murder, kitties, driving off cliffs, having baby fall apart in my hands, etc, etc. I'm kind of numb to them now, they are so consistently strange and troubling. They say this is because our hormones (and bladders) wake us up more frequently during REM so we rememebr them more.
