Um...that's my body you're touching!

So, people (and books about pregnancy) always say that when pregnant, people have the undeniable urge to touch the pregnant lady's belly - and they do. Well, I thought, somehow, I would not experience this phenomenon. It hasn't happened a lot, but it definitely has happened. It is funny how, at any other time, people would not just walk up and touch some one's body and so obviously invade their space. It's like they think it is not my body, but an appendage that is the baby, and not a part of me at all. I want to say "um, that's my body you're touching"...or more hilariously, reach out and put my hand on THEIR belly. I think that would be a riot!! It is one thing, when the baby is moving, to ask someone if they want to feel it, but quite another when people just touch for no reason at all, usually NOT when the baby is moving, and with no invitation. I have taken it in stride, but we will see how I feel after it happens a couple hundred more times.
Also, quite funny is when people think it is appropriate to tell a pregnant woman "you're huge" This has happened to me quite a lot lately. When is "huge" ever a compliment, even when pregnant? It is quite funny, really. I recently told someone "no one is allowed to call a pregnant lady huge - only she can refer to herself that way" Beautiful maybe (because we can always use the pick me up) but NEVER HUGE!

Week 28: Weight - 152 lbs.; Waist 38.5; Hips 40.5; Bust 38

Easter at our house (with the flowers Tim gave me for no reason)! A really happy day!!

  1. I think of my belly as the blarney stone, or some holy rock that people touch and polish with their fingers to a shine. It's a loadstone, sort of. Just accept that it's no longer you they see, it's the baby. They are paying homage to the child within. I admit, I still want to slap people's hands away sometimes. :)
