We wanted to announce our pregnancy in unique ways, so we tried to do that. We waited until after the first trimester. Here is how our announcements went:
Tim's family, Christmas Day, one day before the end of the first trimester (13 weeks): I decided to make gift bags for everyone. In each bag was baby themed (like pacifiers, mints that said "we're having a baby", etc. and pastel candy and an announcement card. There were three different cards. An example of one was "I'm so lucky...I gt to be in your family. I can't wait to join you on July 2. Love, Baby's name.". On the front was a pregnant belly and a little bubble with the baby saying "I'm so Lucky". The rest was on the inside. To see more of the announcements, go to:

I handed them all out at the same time and then everyone opened them. I also got my mother-in law a plaque that said "___ more weeks until my grand baby is born" (http://bestbabyshower.com/new-grandparents-countdown-to-grandbaby-plaque.html) It came with a dry erase marker to write the number of weeks in. I wrote 27 in the space. She opened it when everyone else opened their bags. Everyone was surprised.
My family: December 27th, the first day of week 14 and my second trimester:
I did the same thing as for Tim's family. Mom was thrilled. Only 6 people out of 25 were surprised, so many people had told each other. The only people I told were Heather and Michelle. But by the time I announced it Michelle's whole family, Heather's whole family and Tess and Kalby knew. Luckily, Mom and Jerry were surprised. And Joey cried!
Grandma: Tim and I went to see Grandma on Monday December 29th. We visited for a while then told her "we got a really good present this Christmas...we are expecting a baby in July". She was so happy she cried!
Dee and Kirk: We went to see Dee and Kirk the same night we saw grandma. We visited with them and then Dee said she'd like to come see us again in Ohio. I told her, "well, you should come see us in July because that is when the baby will be born" They were really happy for us.

Adult Sunday School Class: We wanted to do something unique since most people just announce it during when we go around for prayer requests. So I made stork cookies, which was Tim's idea. I told him we should do something unique - like make some food that would make it obvious on our food day. It was our food day right after Christmas - I was 15 weeks. So we made stork cookies and just put them on the food table and walked away. It was so funny. Kevin was standing by the food table and noticed then=m and just stared. Then he said "Connie, is Leslie pregnant"? And she said "I don't know"...then looked then called Mark over and everyone started realizing it and came over to us and congratulated us. It was so exciting! Even more exciting, there are three other pregnant girls in our class. Melissa is one week ahead of me, Sarah is three weeks ahead of me and Debbie is ten weeks ahead of me. We will have 4 new babies April-July.
Our Christmas Letter: We did a crossword puzzle for our Christmas letter, which we didn't send out until Christmas Day to make sure no one got them before we told our families. One of the clues was "the biggest blessing of 2008, one we won't receive until July of 2009". The answer was "baby". A lot of people never did the crossword, so still don't know. They will find out from this blog!
Now we have told just about everyone - we tried to tell as many people in person as possible, but that wasn't always realistic. Everyone has been really supportive and happy for us.
I am glad you got this posted...it will be fun to "watch" the changes. Love you = D
